When you’re older, everyone always says you look young for your age, and sometimes it feels like that’s just something you have to accept. But the truth is, there are tons of ways to look younger than your actual age that can also make you feel more confident about yourself, too! In this article, we’ll cover ten of these age-defying beauty tips so you can start to look 10 years younger than your actual age today!

One of my patients has a saying that fits with my approach to anti-aging. She thinks, I can never be too rich, or too thin, or have too many facelifts. My approach to younger-looking skin is similar. I don’t think it’s possible to overdo it when it comes to skincare. However, I’m a big believer in finding what works for you and focusing on those few things.

Here are my top 10 tips to help your skin look 10 years younger.

1. LuminesceTM Advanced Brightening Solution:

This revolutionary serum contains an active ingredient called NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) which binds moisture to skin like nothing else. It also helps boost cell turnover rate and helps rebuild collagen by stimulating fibroblasts, so you see results quickly. This product also reduces hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production. Keep skin moisturized at all times: Skin dryness creates lines and wrinkles faster than anything else so keeping skin hydrated is essential if you want younger-looking skin and to look 10 years younger.

2. Drink More Water:

Water makes your skin look supple and hydrated, which helps keep it looking younger. In addition to drinking water, you can use a hydrating toner or moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid (the same ingredient used in anti-aging products). You should also incorporate plenty of foods with vitamin C into your diet since they’ll help promote collagen production. For example, oranges contain over 90 milligrams of vitamin C per fruit—almost twice as much as an apple. Finally, keep up with a proper skincare routine by washing your face regularly and incorporating a serum into your nighttime skincare regimen. Many people use serums after their moisturizer so that everything absorbs more quickly and stays put overnight.

3. Use Sunscreen:

Protecting your skin from UV rays is one of the best ways to slow down and reverse signs of aging. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF with an SPF of 30 or higher—and reapply it every two hours. It’s also important to stay hydrated (you lose water when you’re outside) and remember that alcohol can dehydrate your skin, so stick to a drink or two (or maybe just skip them both). All that being said, never get Botox: Not only can it thin your skin, but studies have found no link between Botox and younger-looking skin.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Experts advise sleeping for eight hours every night. Not only does it help you look younger, but it also makes you more energetic and focused. The stress hormone cortisol is released during periods of wakefulness, which breaks down skin cells, contributing to wrinkles and dryness. Getting enough sleep can help reduce your stress levels—and lower cortisol levels—which will make your skin look healthier.

5. Wear sunglasses

The sun’s rays are extremely damaging to your skin, causing wrinkles and other signs of aging. If you want to look younger than your age, wear sunglasses—both for protection from UVA and UVB rays as well as to reduce squinting, which can make wrinkles worse. Not sure what kind of glasses will protect you best? Ask a dermatologist or optometrist; they’ll be able to help. Also, remember that using sunscreen is key—especially if you’re out in direct sunlight regularly. While sunscreen won’t make you look younger, it will keep your skin looking healthy and glowing!

6. Eat Antioxidant Foods

Antioxidants are an important part of your skincare regimen, but it’s worth noting that some antioxidants work better than others when you’re looking to turn back time. Specifically, high levels of vitamin C can help with collagen production and reduce inflammation. Foods like strawberries, oranges, raspberries, kiwis, and bell peppers all have large amounts of vitamin C. Eating a diet rich in fruit can also go a long way toward helping you look younger than your age. Consider swapping out sugary snacks for antioxidant-rich fruits for glowing skin and overall health.

7. Banish Stress

The number one way to look younger than your age is to banish stress. Stress will wreak havoc on your skin, leaving you with a haggard appearance. As you get older, it’s easier for wrinkles and fine lines to develop. Stress makes those lines more likely to show up in places like your forehead and around your eyes. When you’re stressed, take time to relax: take a walk or read a book before bedtime. Exercise can also help diminish some of those wrinkles caused by stress. Exercise has been proven to boost moods as well as aid in sleeping patterns while helping alleviate mental health issues like depression and anxiety—two key triggers of skin problems caused by stress.

8. Get a Massage Once in a While

A massage is a great way to relax, and as it turns out, time for yourself will make you look younger. People who spend time being pampered are generally happier, more satisfied with their lives, and have less stress than those who don’t prioritize themselves. What that means for your skin: When you’re stressed out or overly busy, your body produces more cortisol—and unfortunately, when you have excess cortisol in your body for an extended period, it breaks down collagen and elastin fibers. These two components make up skin cells (called fibroblasts), so if they break down prematurely, it causes fine lines and wrinkles to form earlier than normal.

9. Don’t Smoke or Drink too much Alcohol

Smoking and excessive drinking can cause premature aging and wrinkles, which is never good for looking younger. By staying away from tobacco products and limiting your intake of alcohol, you’ll give your skin a head start on growing younger. For example, smoking lowers collagen production by 40% over time, so if you smoke 2 packs a day that means you’re producing just 60% of what you would have produced if you didn’t smoke at all. And that loss in collagen leads to wrinkling as you age.

10. Exercise Regularly

Exercising regularly is one of, if not THE best way to slow down and even reverse aging. Exercise keeps your blood flowing, helping to flush out all those toxins we ingest from our food that contribute to premature aging. What’s more, exercise improves sleep quality and even reduces stress levels – all of which work together to prevent wrinkles and keep you looking younger for longer. A study conducted at UCLA showed people who exercised for 40 minutes five times a week reduced their skin’s appearance of aging by up to 10 years. So get moving! The time you spend exercising will help you look young for years to come!
