Chatting with Jennifer Aniston over Zoom is a little weird. Coming face to face (or screen to screen) with celebrities is one of the coolest parts of my job, but I’m always surprised when I see a true A-lister—especially one I’ve seen in hundreds of Friends reruns. But Aniston is as nice as you’d imagine, breaking the ice before I could even ask her about her day.
Her effervescent attitude and easygoing demeanor have made her one of Hollywood’s most popular actors for decades, and her California cool has solidified her as a wellness icon.
However, her well-documented passion for fitness and healthy food makes her an obvious choice as the face of any health-focused firm.
With her new role as a partner for fitness business Pvolve, she’s much more than just a spokesman. While the position will require her to contribute to product development and programming strategy, she is most passionate about the platform, which provides both in-person and online workouts.
In honor of the collaboration, we caught up with Aniston to talk about everything wellness. Here are her skincare must-haves, her favorite workout, and the most motivational tips.
Jennifer Aniston in Her Favorite Polish Workout
“I adore so many of them. But I alternate between Progressive Weight Training and Sculpt and Burn because I enjoy working out my entire body. There are numerous levels, and you can go up the difficulty ladder.”
Jennifer Aniston in Her Fitness Journey
“It took me a long to understand nutrition because it wasn’t a popular topic. Back then, there were aerobics and step classes, as well as Reebok steps. Then there was the spinning, and then it just kind of started to explode, so I tried everything.
“But my body would break because I would work so hard, and you’re in a large class, and the trainer is staring at themself and rarely looking at the people. I used to work too hard, which led to burnout. And then you’d say, ‘Okay, well, I had to try something new.’
How Jennifer Aniston Motivates Herself During Low Energy Days
“I don’t always work out. And that’s completely fine. And sometimes I suggest, “Just do 10 or 15 minutes.” When I do those, which is most of the time, you can do a 15-minute lesson and be like, “Okay, I feel pretty amazing.” I’m going to do something different in 15 minutes. And then I do it. And then in the end, you realize you’ve completed three or four lessons and you feel fantastic.”
Jennifer Aniston’s Advice to Someone Who Wants to Be More Active
“Just start. Begin small. I would suggest don’t make your goals so ambitious that you set yourself up for failure but rather start somewhere—start with a 10-minute [session] or 20 minutes. Listen, it will never be simple when you first start, but making that commitment to yourself will provide long-term benefits that are priceless.”
Jennifer Aniston in Her Wellness and Workout Essentials
“I take vitamins. Workouts are three to four days a week. Epsom salt baths at night effectively remove lactic acid from your body. You don’t wake up feeling extremely sore, which can be discouraging when you’re like, ‘I can’t walk. I can’t even sit.’ So that helps.
“I also believe that infrared saunas are very beneficial after a good workout.” There are small infrared blankets. And then I installed an infrared heater in my sauna. I no longer use the normal sauna. It is strictly infrared. It’s considerably prettier and more efficient.”
She does one thing every morning
“I meditate with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in warm or room temperature water. I feed my dogs. I cleanse my face using Aveeno face wash, which I’ve been using for as long as I can remember.
Her Skincare Favorites:
“I switch and move around a lot, but I love Biologique [Recherche] and their toners.” Shani Darden is the facialist here, and I adore her. Her retinol is excellent, and her serums are great. Her items are quite wonderful. She’s such a skin expert, and it all starts with herself. She is her guinea pig. She works with an excellent laboratory, and the packaging is stunning. “Everything is great.”
The One ’90s Trend She Never Stopped Following…
“Well, I’ve been wearing the same clothes pretty much since the 1990s [laughs]!” Thank goodness jeans, tank tops, and flip-flops are timeless. My highlights have been relatively consistent since the 1990s.”
And the one she would never want to do again
“Trends from the 1990s that I don’t need to revisit are probably those super-narrow sunglasses that are making a comeback right now. Also, I will not be joining the ultra-tiny brow trend. Been there, done that. “I’m lucky they even returned.”
