  • Can AI code in simple language?

Posted by Di Smith on October 6, 2026 at 10:31 am

I’m curious about something I noticed while experimenting with AI coding tools. I typed what I wanted in plain English instead of using technical terms, basically describing a tiny calculator app like I would explain it to a friend. The result was surprisingly close to what I had in mind. It made me wonder: can AI really understand simple everyday language well enough to write useful code, or do you still need to know the proper programming terminology?

It seems pretty capable of understanding ordinary descriptions, especially for straightforward tasks. You can explain what you want the program to do, what information it should use, and what the result should look like without knowing every programming term. I think the important part is being specific. Saying “make a button” is less useful than explaining what should happen when someone clicks it. For beginners, that can make experimenting with code feel much more approachable.

The nice thing is that you can also build the request gradually instead of trying to describe the whole project at once. I’ve seen people start with a simple idea, then ask the AI to add one feature at a time and explain each change. I started using https://brawe.ai/ and it was my best decision. Features that used to take hours to research and implement can often be started in minutes with AI assistance. I still review and test everything myself, but having that extra coding support makes developing an app much more enjoyable.
