FASHION MOVIES 2. PRET – A- PORTER (1994)
Nothing is quite what it seems in Robert Altman’s expansive, star-studded, and highly humorous tribute to the fashion industry. Celebrity cameos include Julia Roberts, Sophia Loren, and Lauren Bacall, who portray different fashionistas arriving at Paris Fashion Week following the passing of Olivier de la Fontaine, the head of the city’s fashion council. The film employs the filmmaker’s trademark mockumentary style. Even though the movie was a box office and critical disaster, the fashion industry’s originally incredulous reaction has since warmed up to love it.

You can’t go wrong with Audrey Tautou’s outstanding portrayal of Coco Chanel in her early years as a seamstress before she went on to start her eponymous design brand that would alter the modern woman’s wardrobe if you’re seeking a dose of fashion history. It’s the uncommon fashion biopic that delves deeply under the surface with the aid of tasteful cinematography and art direction—and maybe most notably, breathtaking style moments provided by the French costume designer Catherine Leterrier, whose work on the film garnered her a César Award.
FASHION MOVIES 4. CRUCELLA (2021)
Disney’s imaginative perspective on the fashion industry may be a little exaggerated, but it does more good than bad. It narrates the beginnings of the notoriously fashionable antagonist Cruella DeVil from 101 Dalmatians, as portrayed by Emma Stone when she was younger. Her origins as a rebellious fashion designer bear many similarities to real-life personalities like Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, as she rebels against the frivolous and flowery 1960s London style and adds something darker and more deadly to the mix.
5. THE DRESSMAKER (2015)
Kate Winslet’s character, Myrtle Dunnage, returns to her small Australian village after being held responsible for a classmate’s death many years ago. Myrtle has changed her name to Tilly and relaunched herself as a well-known seamstress and couture designer who draws attention whenever she walks into town. In this comedy-drama, Tilly teaches the people that a dress can be much more than just an article of clothing. But Tilly is also seeking retribution from those who harmed her years ago, even as she dresses up the ladies in her village in glitzy attire.
6. THE HOUSE OF GUCCI (2021)
Gucci House (2021)House of Gucci, which is based on a true incident, follows Patrizia Reggiani as she weds into the Gucci family. Her ambition sets off a series of events that include treachery, retaliation, and murder. The movie has a lot of flashy costumes, family strife, and the well-known phrase “Father, Son, House of Gucci.”
