Fragrance Categories

Parfum

Also called extrait de parfum or pure perfume, parfum has the highest fragrance concentration, usually between 20 to 30 percent. Also, it lasts the longest, for about six to eight hours.

Eau de Parfum

It has a general concentration of about 5 to 15 percent. It lasts for two to three hours. Moreover, this is cheaper than parfum and is most famous for all fragrance types.

Eau de Cologne

Aside from its 2 to 4 percent concentration, it has a scent that can last for two hours. Despite its low concentration, it has a high alcohol content.

Eau Fraiche

It has the lowest fragrance concentration, usually from 1 to 3 percent. It also has a lower alcohol content than Eau de Cologne.

Fragrance Composition

A perfume type is made of distinct scent notes that interact with each other to produce a particular scent, not a combination of it. Scent notes fall into three types:

– Top notes- Often sharp and distinct, this is what it smells immediately which usually lasts for minutes to an hour after spraying.

– Heart notes- also called middle notes, have a smoother aroma than the top notes, and most last from four to six hours after application.

– Base notes- these parts come slowly, mostly many hours after being sprayed. It is usually warm and sensual compared to the other mentioned notes.
