Julie Bowen is an American actress, best known for her roles as Claire Dunphy on the ABC sitcom Modern Family (2009–2020) and Carol Vessey on the NBC sitcom Ed (2000–2004). She has also appeared in films such as Happy Gilmore (1996), Multiplicity (1996), Joe Somebody (2001), and Crazy, Stupid, and Love (2011).

Bowen’s big break came in 1996 when she was cast as Carol Vessey on the NBC sitcom Ed. After Ed ended, Bowen appeared in a number of films and television shows, including Happy Gilmore, Multiplicity, Joe Somebody, and Crazy, Stupid, and Love.
Bowen won six Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on Modern Family. In addition to her acting career, Bowen has her own line of clothing and accessories, and she is also the co-founder of the production company Bowen/Yang Productions.
