Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray (born 6 January 1994) is a Filipino-Australian model, singer, and Miss Universe 2018 winner. She is the fourth Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe. Gray previously won Miss Universe Philippines 2018 and Miss World Philippines 2016, among other titles. Gray was born in Cairns, Queensland, to Ian Gray, an Australian of Scottish origin, and Normita Ragas Magnayon, a Filipina from Oas, Albay. Gray is said to be named after Catherine Gray, her paternal grandmother.Gray attended Trinity Anglican School in Cairns, where she served as a house captain and sang in the school choir. Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts awarded her a graduate certificate in music theory. She also earned an outdoor recreation certificate and a black belt in Choi Kwang-Do martial arts. Gray was also the main singer in her high school’s jazz band and appeared in local Miss Saigon productions. Advocacies
Gray’s advocacy has centered on women’s rights and cultural development over the years, particularly through the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry’s “One Town, One Product” (OTOP) project.
