Here comes summer with its bright sunny mornings, mangoes and sweat; lots and lots of it. Sweating is the natural way for our body to excrete dirt and toxins. But, who likes to look all damp and smell like a pig? It has hardly been a month of summer and it has been horrible for me, especially at the gym. Apart from the constant running of tiny sweat drops down my back, I am also freaked out about smelling bad. I keep my distance from people. I have nightmares about my trainer coming to help me with a dumbbell and making a weird face because of my smell.

So, what can we do about that? Don’t sweat it. I have a few tips for you. I can’t make you stop sweating altogether (which isn’t healthy, by the way) but I can help you with some tips to manage your sweat.

1. Odour control:

The very first thing about sweating is the awful odour that it comes with. It makes up feel uncomfortable and under-confident. Deodorants work their level best, but not all of them last long enough. Switch to stronger deodorants and antiperspirants. There are multiple options in the market for the same. Choose the products that have at least a few hours of lasting time.

Let me tell you a secret. What I do is, spray the deodorant at night on my sweaty areas. This gives some time for the active ingredients to get into the sweat glands. Using them just before going out when the sweating has already begun has no benefits. The sweat simply washes off the deodorant.

2. Clothing:

If you are aware that you sweat a lot, go for light-weight clothing. While you are working out or otherwise, choose clothes that let your body breathe. Lightweight and airy clothes like cotton are the best during summer. You can also go for athletic clothing. These clothes are tailor-made to fit the needs of an athlete. Hence, these are sweat-absorbents.

3. Change:

Don’t wear your sweaty clothes over and over again. Pull out your attire once you are out of the gym and back to your home. Make sure that you take out your sweaty socks as well.

4. Puff It Up:

Power your sweaty areas before you go out. A little bit on the neck, armpits and behind your neck, perhaps. This keeps your body dry for quite some time.

5. Avoid Spicy Food:

Pepper and other spices make you sweat when you eat. Try avoiding them and u are good to go.

6. Fuller pack:

Take a handful of Multani Mitti or Fuller’s Earth, mix it with some water and make a paste out of it. Apply the pack to your sweaty area once a week. This makes the area dry and controls the sweat.

7. Choose darker colours:

Light coloured clothes can make sweat visible. Choose colours that don’t.
