The word “barber” usually relates to a person with male clients, although this is no longer an unchangeable significance. Barbers cut, trim, and shampoo hair, give scalp massages, trim and color beards and give shaves. Barbers running shops also need the required skills for successfully operating a small business.

Step by Step Education Requirements

In the United States, to start a barber business, you must attend a barber training school where you would be offered a certificate of completion, accredited by the National Accreditation Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Science.

Almost in every part of the world, it is a must that you go through this regular training, especially in Nigeria, barber learned this profession from a certified start-up, to receive the certificate of completion.

A barber must join the Association of Barbing Salons in Nigeria before the opening. The duration to learn and be certified as a barber is between six months to 24 months.

California’s apprenticeship program, for example, is a two-year apprenticeship under a licensed barber, along with an additional 200 hours of classroom instruction. To qualify for California’s apprenticeship program, applicants must also complete a 39-hour preliminary training program from an approved sponsor. Some states also require working barbers to complete periodic in-service training programs.
