Skin Care
As dermatologist Brian A. Zelickson, MD, of Advanced Dermatology P.C. told Men’s Health that nearly 80 percent of what causes aging skin is related to photoaging, which is exposure to ultraviolet radiation from UV rays. This type of damage is largely out of your control (sorry), but taking care not to burn—which opens pores and breaks down collagen—will protect your skin over time. Try a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day; a physical or chemical block will both work as long as they include zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, according to Zelickson.
Hair Care
What are you doing right now to keep your hair beautiful and healthy? If your answer is nothing, consider yourself part of a large group of American women. According to data from Mintel, more than two-thirds of American women say they don’t use any products on their hair at all. That number includes shampoo, conditioner, styling products (curlers, straighteners), hair spray, mousse, and other beauty aids we take for granted. Do a little research into what our beauty products will look like five years from now and you might get inspired—or very worried about that single strand of gray hair.
Foundation And Concealer
Next year, foundation and concealer will be using a new classification system called Focus On Skin Performance. Currently, there are two classifications: focus on skin appearance (how flawless your foundation looks) and focus on skin health (how well your makeup works with your skin). By next year, companies are expected to provide specific details about what they mean by these classifications—and whether they contain any ingredients that could cause breakouts or irritate sensitive skin. Until then, we recommend you choose mineral-based products with SPF; Dermatologist Rita Linkner says these are less likely to clog pores or trigger allergies.
Color Cosmetics
Beauty products on Amazon, which include a large variety of brushes and cosmetics, have begun integrating holographic cosmetic prints that use superconductor nano cables (SCNC) into their packaging. These advances in beauty products have made applying makeup quick and easy. Many even claim that these types of advancements have made choosing what shade is best for you easier than ever before. In addition, SCNC technology allows beauty product companies to create new shapes that are more ergonomic and versatile than older versions. Experts predict that will see similar technological advancements in hair color trends as well; however, they will be less dependent on marketing claims and independent reviews due to increasing concern over safe ingredients being used when coloring your hair.
Skincare for Men
A long time ago, men weren’t encouraged to take care of their skin. Today, that’s all changed. While there are still some guys out there who don’t care about skincare, many modern men are obsessed with looking and feeling good from head to toe (literally). According to The NPD Group, products specifically targeting male skin concerns have grown by 21% between 2011 and 2015. While skincare for women is a huge industry that shows no signs of slowing down, men’s skincare is just starting to pick up steam—and it should keep growing at an exponential rate over the next few years as men become more focused on their own beauty routines.
