Hello, fashionistas! Nowadays, I find myself very conscious of my skin and my skincare routine. I didn’t care before until I had to go to events and then boom, skincare became a second priority. Then I was at work one day, thinking, “How can I stay fresh all day?” I finally found some tips and decided I had to share them with you all as an apology for not being consistent. So guys, here are some skincare tips on how to stay fresh all day.

Skincare tips

I didn’t like having to touch the subject of skincare routines because I have a very tight schedule most of the time and well, it can be quite expensive. But then I saw my face in the mirror one day and was like, something has to be done (lol). At the time, my brother was so obsessed with looking good and getting his skin under good conditions that he ended up buying a very expensive but effective product we may all know (Cerave). So, all I had to do was follow his lead and fortunately, the product doesn’t select whether it’s for male or female.

However, I discovered that just because I used these products in the morning and night didn’t mean I would stay fresh all day. I didn’t like the fact that I would get to work looking radiant and fresh but leave work looking stressed. So, I took matters seriously and found some tips I could incorporate into my “during the day” routine.

7 Skincare tips on how to stay fresh all-day

Maintaining fresh-looking skin throughout the day involves a combination of a consistent skincare routine, healthy lifestyle habits, and smart makeup choices. Here are comprehensive tips to help your skin stay radiant and vibrant all day long:

  • Skincare Tips 1: Create a Regular Skincare Schedule

Morning routine

Cleanser: To prepare your skin for the day and get rid of any pollutants, start with a mild cleanser. I use Cerave facial cleanser and I love it.

Toner: This may provide an additional layer of moisture and aid in balancing the pH of the skin. I know that toners can be important but I see them as optional because once you have a very effective moisturizer, then I think you’re good to go.

Serum: To brighten your skin and shield it from the elements, use a vitamin C serum. Yes, guys, serums work like food magic. Just imagine the natural properties of vitamin C directly on your face. There was a lady in my company, and whenever I saw her, she always glowed.

I asked her one day what her skincare products were and she said vitamin C serum and moisturizer. I was shocked because just those two were for her face and it glowed.

Moisturizer: To keep your skin hydrated, use a lightweight moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type. If you’re Nigerian, then you know just how hot the sun is right now, which is why it is advisable to use lightweight moisturizers instead of regular ones, because we begin to sweat and all the hard work flows down the skin.

Sunscreen: To shield your skin from damaging UV rays, choose a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher. Whenever you’re outside, reapply every two hours. Ever since I started applying sunscreen even during work hours, I find my skin smoother instead of dry.

Evening routine:

Cleanser: Eliminate sunscreen, makeup, and pollutants that have gathered throughout the day.
Exfoliate your skin two to three times a week to help remove dead cells and encourage a clearer complexion.
Products for Treatment: For skin restoration and hydration, use creams with components like hyaluronic acid or retinol.
During the night, use a heavier moisturizer to hydrate and nurture your skin because at least then you won’t be sweating (lol).

Make sure you get enough water each day—at least 8 glasses should be consumed to keep your skin moisturized and to remove toxins. One thing my mom tells me is that I do not drink enough water and one thing about her is that she drinks water a lot.

When my mom was in the hospital, water was what kept her sugar and blood pressure levels in an optimal range. I have tried incorporating this and well, I’m getting there (laughs).

Humidifier: Keeping your skin moist can be achieved by using a humidifier, particularly in arid locations or in the winter.
Hydrating Masks: For an added boost, incorporate hydrating face masks into your routine a couple of times each week.

Balanced Diet: When it comes to food, my ears and stomach are always attentive. If anyone follows my posts regularly, you’d know that I am a food scientist, and in line with that is nutrition. Food and water are one of the most effective and easiest ways to stay fresh throughout the day. Nowadays I find myself waking up to cook my own standard nutritious food.

Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats to provide essential nutrients for your skin.

Regular Exercise:

Improves blood circulation, which helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. My own form of exercise is working. When I have to walk around or stand for a while, then I guess I’m successful in this area.

Adequate Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your skin to repair and regenerate.

Manage Stress: Chronic stress can negatively impact your skin. Practice relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises. I should probably take heed of this because my schedule is exhausting.

  • Skincare Tips 4: Protect Your Skin Throughout the Day

Reapply Sunscreen: Especially if you’re spending extended periods outdoors. I now carry a small tube of sunscreen and moisturizer to work because I can’t afford to look like a brick wall.

Avoid Touching Your Face:

Reduces the risk of transferring oil and dirt that can lead to breakouts. Bacteria is the easiest microorganism that can be grown anywhere. Just imagine I work in a food production company and I deal with microorganisms in the chemical/microbial lab every day—the number of microorganisms that I could have on my hands.

My mom always says whenever I return from anywhere, the first thing to do is wash my hands. I say this is correct but it is also advisable to have portable sanitizers with you.

Shield from Environmental Stressors:

Wear sunglasses and hats to protect against wind and sun exposure. Honestly, I had to get sunglasses as part of my recent shopping list because the sun in Lagos behaves like we have done something to it.

  • Skincare Tips 5: Smart Makeup Choices

Skincare Tips 5: Smart Makeup Choices

One thing about me is that I do not like makeup well unless you count vitamin E moisturizer and lipgloss as one. And fortunately, where I work, it is wrong to wear makeup to a food production area. However, that is just me. The same cannot be said for others. If you are someone who likes makeup, then I suggest you adhere to the following:

Primer: Use a good primer to create a smooth base and help your makeup last longer.

Lightweight Foundation and Tinted Moisturizer: Opt for products that provide coverage without feeling heavy.

Setting Powder or Spray: Use a translucent setting powder to control shine or a setting spray to lock in your makeup.

Blotting Papers: Carry blotting papers to manage excess oil and maintain a fresh appearance without adding more layers.

  • Skincare Tips 6: Choose the Right Product for Your Skin Type

Identify your skin type: Whether it’s oily, dry, combination, or sensitive, using products tailored to your skin type can make a significant difference. This is why I like Cerave products because they tell us what this product is specifically for.

If you’re like me and have oily skin, then I suggest you get products that won’t dry it out because our oils are also what help us in naturally hydrating the skin. However, when the oils dry out on your skin, it is best to wash them away, as you might have accumulated a lot of dirt and germs on it.

Patch Test New Products: To ensure they don’t cause irritation or breakouts. I don’t do this because I like to stick to what I already know works for me. However, if you’re just starting to find the right product for you, then you can buy small quantities and try them for a specific period that was allocated for such a product.

Now I know that Cerave products are not quick-fix products; instead, they take a bit of time to see their effectiveness. However, I don’t try to use another product of the same work so I can know the real effect of such a product.

  • Skincare Tips 7: Smile

I usually say a genuine smile is one that reaches your eyes. One thing I’m known for is smiling. No wonder people think I’m still in high school.

A large, sincere smile never fails to brighten someone’s face. Discover reasons to be happy and thankful for every moment of the day. You will appear more amiable and appealing when you smile at other people. Embracing a smile each morning can make you feel and appear younger!
