Hello, fashionistas, and welcome to another blog post. Today, we’ll be taking the care route for healthy skin. I know we’ve all heard a lot about skincare and probably have our own specific ways of handling it. However, I just want us to take a few moments to talk about the relationship between seasons and the skin. I always hear things like “It’s the weather” whenever I complain about my skin. So, please join me as we journey through Spring Skin Care: 5 Tips for Healthy Skin.
Spring and Skin
In Nigeria, we experience mostly the dry season and rainy season. And so, whenever we get a change of season, it comes with a wide range of skin irritations. This can be the same in any other country. A change in the season often characterizes many skin irritations. Spring follows winter, exposing your skin to the changes that occur. What I’m saying in simple terms is that as the weather changes from the usual dry and cold to wet and springy, our skin also takes a hit.
During spring, your body may experience common skin issues such as eczema, allergies, and rashes. Eczema results in red, itchy patches due to chronic skin inflammation. Allergies can lead to skin symptoms like rashes and swelling. Various factors, including allergies, infections, and autoimmune disorders, can cause skin rashes.
If I want to characterize any season as Spring in Nigeria, it will be the rainy season. However, in Nigeria, whenever it rains, there is usually no light, and the heat rises to a whole other level. I had to do a lot of things to make up for it to ensure my skin stays healthy and fresh. When it comes to spring skin care routines, they help to ensure the skin stays fresh during the season. You don’t have to worry about the so-called ‘Spring break out’ as one of my friends has (lol).
5 Spring skin care tips for healthy skin
The skin is one of the most important parts of the body. As spring brings bright colors, our skin changes with the warmer and more humid weather. Moving from winter dryness to spring can create new skin issues and chances to care for them better. Here are five tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing this spring. Enjoy the season and let your skin shine!
1. Stay Hydrated
My mum never allows me to go without water. Whenever I sit to write or work, she makes up her mind to put a bottle of water on my desk (lol). But, to be honest, water is life. Last Sunday, we had a health talk, and the preacher said that women, are to take 2.7 liters of water every day, while men, 3.7 liters.
Keeping your skin hydrated is important, especially in the changing spring weather. Drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables with high water content to keep your skin moisturized from the inside. It helps to exfoliate the skin from the inside as well, thereby preventing the growth of eczema and rashes.
There are ways to stay hydrated other than drinking water. They include using a humidifier, eating food rich in water, avoiding hot showers every time, and avoiding strong soaps.
2. Use Sunscreen
Even though the sun isn’t as hot as in summer, it still carries its own weight, especially since the season before was so cold and dry. It is wise to use sunscreen during the spring to avoid the breakout of rashes as well as skin irritation. Honestly, I don’t really like applying sunscreen because of the additional layer of heat that it causes. One affordable sunscreen is
3. Moisturize
One thing the spring season brings up is high humidity. Therefore, it can cause an increase in oil production and growth of acne, especially for sensitive skin. Furthermore, the season can also cause clogged pores because of the increased oil production. This is why it is always advisable to stick to a moisturizer that suits one’s skin.
4. ExfoliationÂ
This is simply referred to as the process of removing built-up dirt and surface skin cells. Gentle exfoliation is important to remove any excess dirt, oil, and irritation on the skin. It removes dead skin cells and rejuvenates them.
Exfoliation+ moisturizing = Smooth skin
As I mentioned before, spring brings about different irritations for different types of skin. While exfoliation is good, it is not recommended to be done every time. It is advisable to exfoliate at least three times a week and a maximum of four times.
5. Use Antioxidants
Yeah guys, as bogus as this may sound, it is quite important. I have a friend who never ceases to ensure she gets an antioxidant for her skin. She made me love them because of the way they help nourish the skin. One great antioxidant is Vitamin C serums. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also readily available and natural. Antioxidant serums are like food to the skin. I know we may be wondering “How many things have I got to put on my skin?”. I understand, but as far as skincare routines go for the changing of seasons, antioxidants shouldn’t be off the list.
If you haven’t already incorporated this, then I guess it’s time to. In Nigeria, the weather is so hot these days. Even when it rains, the sun quickly comes up.
Adjusting your skincare routine according to the season can help keep your skin looking and feeling its best all year round. Spring is a beautiful season but having a good spring skin care routine can help you stay glowing even as the season goes on.
