Choosing a wedding dress is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most brides. Your wedding gown sets the tone for the day and reflects your personality and style. Start looking for your wedding gown early and stick to a budget!!
1. Identify styles that you like.
Examine bridal magazines and the Internet. Dresses that appeal to you should be saved, cut out, and pinned.
2. Choose Your Favorites
Examine the images you saved to see if there are any similar styles or patterns. Are all of your favorite dresses lace ball gowns? Begin there, then narrow it down to the features you know you prefer.
3. Schedule Appointments
Schedule appointments to try on wedding dresses at various stores. Request recommendations from your friends and family! Bring your favorite images to the salon and let them know what style of dress you want. It’s also a good idea to research which designers each salon carries—visit the designer websites and make a list of styles you like. Don’t forget to tell them about your spending plan! Trying on a dress that is far out of your price range will only lead to frustration, and the last thing your consultant wants to do is put you in a dress that you cannot afford.
4. Wear the Right Undergarments
To try on gowns, wear a nude strapless bra or similar. When straps or seams are in the way, it’s difficult to get a good idea of how a dress will look. You should also bring a pair of heels or shoes similar to what you plan to wear on the big day. It never hurts to bring a bottle of water
5. Push the Boundaries of Your Comfort Zone
Don’t hesitate to try on styles besides your favorites. During the consultation, have faith in your consultant. They choose wedding gowns for brides every day and have a better understanding of their stock. You might be taken aback and pick a wedding dress you wouldn’t normally pick! Your experience will be improved the more you communicate with your bridal consultant. If you don’t like how your waist looks in an A-line dress, you should probably try a different style. Be sure to tell them exactly what you like or dislike about each dress you try on.
6. Remember the Extras
Ask to try on a veil, headpiece, or jewelry item if the bridal salon carries them if you’re on the fence about a dress. The finishing touch, or accessory, can occasionally add that extra detail that might be lacking. Another important factor is the color of the dress. Inform your consultant of the color you are interested in (white, ivory, blush, etc.) at the beginning of your appointment. You might be able to order the sample dress you fall in love with even if the color isn’t exactly what you’re looking for.
Note: If you can’t find your ideal wedding dress in the first shop, don’t give up. Some brides feel the need to try on more dresses, while others can say “Yes!” to the very first dress they try on. When you come across it, you’ll know it!
