As the world evolves, more loopholes in occupations are being discovered. Positions that don’t have an exact title, are filled by a couple of different people every time. One of these positions is the Dance Model.
Let’s take a look at these positions individually:
WHO IS A DANCER?
A dancer is an individual who dances for the pleasure of others and gets paid for it or for personal pleasure. A professional dancer undergoes years of training and often specializes. They have gained recognition and are seen as an authority in their genre of choice.
WHO IS A MODEL?
A model is a person trained to be the ideal framework upon which the artist’s finished work is displayed. They meet the specific requirements needed for a particular campaign, runway, or shoot.
Sometimes the requirements may just be a great portfolio, the ability to obey instructions or a position of influence.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO TAKE AWAY FROM THESE DEFINITIONS?
These individuals must undergo training. A lot of individuals believe that career paths such as dancing and modeling occur by luck.
Contrarily, these individuals undergo vigorous training, often spending years partaking in backbreaking exercise, strict diets, and extraordinary lifestyle choices.
In a bid to become the best in their craft, attain the correct body stature, and become authorities.
For instance, it takes 8-10 years of training to become a professional ballerina. It could even take longer. Not to mention that training doesn’t stop there. Many a dancer train for their whole lives, training until their bones cannot take it anymore.
Likewise, the fashion industry is ever-evolving, and models need to stay updated on trends and work out to maintain the right physique for their chosen area

WHY NOT JUST USE A DANCER/MODEL?
Well, that’s what creative directors have been doing all along but it doesn’t always work out. There are very different types of training. However, there are areas that overlap.
A lot of models are instead encouraged to take on dancing as an extracurricular activity. But inevitably, a model that does aerobics once a week probably can’t stand on pointe shoes. Can’t give a salsa skirt the right flare… you get the picture right?
Then why not use a ballerina? It will take much longer to get a good shot because they may be able to stand on pointe shoes, but they may not be so good at posing. Also, they may not understand the directors’ instructions, how to interact with the lights, etc.
THE IDEAL INDIVIDUAL FOR THIS SITUATION IS SOMEONE WHO IS TRAINED IN BOTH DANCING AND MODELLING. HOWEVER RECALL, THAT THERE ARE VARIOUS DANCE GENRES, AND ONE PERSON CAN BE A PROFESSIONAL IN EVERY DANCE GENRE.
This qualification makes for a better portfolio, and as there are few qualified enough for these positions, you are a rare entity. Your prices can go higher, and you become an authority in different spheres.
So if you have passion for both of these career paths, don’t worry, you can effectively do both.
