Ever read a fashion magazine article and ask yourself, “Who would wear that?” I think we’ve all felt like this. For too long, high fashion has been something we didn’t feel we could wear. This was the era of ill-fitting suits, uncomfortable shoes, and pasty colours.
But as 2026 is nearing its peak, things are changing. We’re finally putting comfort first – and not compromising on style. We fashion folks are calling it the “Soft Reset”. It’s a trend towards garments that feel good to wear.
The Power of “Happy Colours”
The “in” thing to wear for so many years was black, white, and beige. We referred to it as “Quiet Luxury”. It was sophisticated, but let’s face it – it was a bit dull.
Europe is embracing its pastel selves in 2026. But it’s not clashing, fluorescent colours. Rather, it’s all about Glacier Blue and Butter Yellow.
That’s the clear sky on a chilly winter’s day, Glacier Blue. It’s soothing, classy, and suits everyone. And combine it with a cream skirt or pants, and you’ll look like a boss. This season’s fashion is about “Dopamine Dressing”, where you can wear colours that will put you in a better mood during a stressful day at the office.
Goodbye “Painful Shoe”
We have all learnt one thing – you can’t live a life in pain. So, it’s no wonder that the Mesh Flat and the Satin Sneaker are the shoe favourites of the summer.
If you haven’t seen these transparent mesh sneakers on social media, you soon will. At first glance, they’re weird. But when you wear them, you see why they’re so popular. They’re extremely comfortable and breathable. For example, when walking around the cities of Paris or London, with thousands of steps a day, these shoes are a blessing.
And for the guys? The “Dad Shoe” is out. But in its stead, we’re seeing low and narrow sneakers that look like they’re from the 1970s, but are for the future. It’s the curve of the foot that’s in fashion. No longer will you have to stick your toes into narrow shoes to look “business professional”.
Sweatpants in Public – Yes, Please!
My current favourite fashion trend is Outleisure (also known as Outleasure). It’s when you wear beautiful PJs out and about.
But I don’t mean your well-worn and wrinkled t-shirt. I’m talking about fabulous silk sets. In 2026, it’s a “Power Move” to wear a silk pajama top to go with some well-fitted jeans and a blazer.
Why are we doing this? Because life’s stressful enough. We shouldn’t stress ourselves out with our clothes. There’s a way you carry yourself in clothes that drape, such as silk or fine cotton. You’re less stressed, and you don’t worry. You’re communicating, “I’m confident that I am successful.”
Clothes with a Story
The most “human” fashion in 2026 is that we’re interested in the origin of our products. We are taking our clothes away from “Fast Fashion” (cheap clothes that fall apart after two washes) and heading towards Investment Pieces.
We want to wear our clothes made by human beings. We want to know that a bag we buy in Africa, or a jacket we buy in Italy, is made from recycled materials. We want to be sure the seamstress who sewed our shirt is treated well. In 2026, “Ethical” is the new “Armani”.
Steps to 2026 Fashion
It doesn’t take a million dollars to look fabulous this year. All you need to do is follow these three guidelines:
One “Pop” of colour: If you’re willing to wear neutral colours, show off a Glacier Blue scarf or socks.
Pay attention to the fit: You will look better in a cheaper shirt that fits you well than an expensive one that doesn’t.
Be true to yourself: If you don’t like something, no matter how trendy it is, don’t wear it! The best accessory you can wear is self-confidence.
Final Thoughts
In 2026, fashion is becoming “human” again. It’s all about expressing your emotions, having fun, and, most importantly, feeling good. So the next time you dress, ask yourself, “Is this fashionable?” Ask yourself, “Am I being my most confident?” If you feel like it, you’re on your way.
