Hello, fashionistas! Yep, you guessed it. We are still in the summer mood. I keep hearing about the heat waves in some countries and truly, my heart goes out to everyone suffering. However, that is why I am here. Now, just because it’s hot out doesn’t mean we won’t go out. And so today we’ll discuss the 5 Best Summer Outfits for Outdoor Activities.

Summer Outfits for Outdoors

Summer is the perfect season for outdoor adventures, from hiking up picturesque trails to lounging on sandy beaches. However, finding the right summer outfit that balances comfort, style, and functionality can be a challenge. Whenever I want to go out, my first thought is always, “What am I going to wear?”. However, depending on the outing and the weather, my mind usually wanders about the kind of outfit I should put on.

There is something agricultural students did when I was in the university. It’s called farm practice year. This was the year they would practically be on the farm from morning to evening doing, well, farming. And they all had the same uniform. It was a lightweight jumpsuit, rubber farm boots, and a wide-brimmed straw hat. In conclusion, it was a funny yet practical and necessary outfit for them to be prepared for the sun or the rain.

I do not like going out during rainy seasons because once I decide to wear white sneakers with my outfit, they come back home with me as brown in mud color. Consequently, this makes summer my favorite season for an outing. Moreover, summer outfits are always chic when they are trendy and comfortable.

5 Best Summer Outfits for Outdoor Activities

Whether you’re hitting the trails or heading to the shore, here are some top summer outfit ideas to keep you cool, comfortable, and chic during your summer escapades.

1. Hiking in Style

5 Best Summer Outfits for Outdoor Activities

a. Breathable Tops: Hiking isn’t my thing but I do know from all the movies that I watch that it requires energy and as such sweating is unavoidable. So when you decide to put yourself under such pressure, choose sweat-wicking and breathable fabrics like polyester or merino wool to stay dry. A lightweight, long-sleeve shirt will protect you from the sun and keep you cool. Brands like Patagonia and Columbia have great options.

b. Sturdy Bottoms: Choose quick-drying, durable hiking pants or shorts. Convertible pants that zip off into shorts are versatile for changing weather conditions. Look for those with plenty of pockets for convenience because we all know hiking with a lot of loads ain’t appropriate.

c. Proper Footwear: I may have never gone hiking before but I do know it has a lot to do with walking. If you try hiking in Nigeria, I’m sure you’d never want to do it again (lol, just saying). Footwear is just as important as the clothes as it completes the outfit.

Invest in a good pair of hiking boots or trail shoes with adequate ankle support and grip. Merrell and Salomon have reliable options that combine comfort and durability.

d. Accessories: Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection, a lightweight backpack for essentials, and a pair of polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays. And don’t forget to use sunscreen. You may not be going to the beach but sunscreen is just as important and helpful. My brother told me he wants to buy a facial cream for the day because it has sunscreen and we don’t even hike (lol). Well, unless you wanna be darker than your mood then it is highly recommended.

2. Beach Day Essentials

a. Swimwear: The last time I went to the beach, I regretted it because I didn’t wear my swimsuit. I wore a lightweight long-sleeved flowy top and black jeans. I had to pull up the jeans to be able to go near the water.

So, to not be like me, choose a swimsuit that suits your activity level. For lounging, a stylish bikini or one-piece is perfect. For more active pursuits like beach volleyball or surfing, opt for a sporty swimsuit that provides more support and coverage.

b. Cover-ups: A lightweight cover-up, such as a sarong, kaftan, or beach dress, is perfect for transitioning from the water to a beachside café. Look for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.

c. Footwear: Flip-flops and sandals are beach staples and a must-have to complete summer outfits for beach days. Brands like Havaianas and Reef offer comfortable and stylish options. If you plan on walking long distances, consider water shoes or sandals with arch support. However, in Nigeria, we’ve got these rubber sneakers that allow us to prepare for both heat and rain.

d. Accessories: A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a large beach bag are must-haves. Don’t forget to pack a quick-dry towel and a water-resistant phone case.

3. Casual Outdoor Gatherings

a. Tops: A flowy tank top or a lightweight, breathable t-shirt is ideal. You can check out summer outfits for lazy days on my page. Casual outings mean comfort outings to me when it comes to my outfit. Opt for natural fabrics like cotton or linen that allow your skin to breathe.

b. Bottoms: Comfortable shorts or a casual skirt can keep you cool. If you prefer pants like me, choose lightweight, loose-fitting styles. Or you can just go for simple jumpsuits because I know that’s what I would do.

c. Footwear: Casual sandals or espadrilles are stylish and comfortable. For a sportier look, canvas sneakers are a great choice. I prefer sandals to sneakers nowadays probably because I love it when my legs breathe.

d. Accessories: To complete your look, add a sun hat, a crossbody bag for your essentials, and a pair of chic sunglasses. Additionally, a light jacket or cardigan can be handy for cooler evenings.

4. Camping Comfort

a. Layered Tops: Start with a moisture-wicking base layer. What I mean by moisture-wicking is something that draws away moisture from a surface. However, you can add a lightweight fleece or hoodie for warmth, and a waterproof jacket if rain is in the forecast. Even though rain isn’t in the forecast, you can never be too prepared for it.

b. Functional Bottoms: Quick-dry pants or shorts are practical. Leggings are also a comfortable option for sleeping or lounging around the campsite. However, you can just wear hiking outfits but add another layer to it.

c. Footwear: Sturdy, comfortable shoes are essential. Hiking boots or trail shoes are great for daytime activities, while cushioned sandals can give your feet a break at the campsite during the evening/night hours.

d. Accessories: A wide-brimmed hat, a headlamp, and a multifunctional scarf or bandana can be very useful. I use bandanas most of the time but I still prefer wide-brimmed hats. Also, don’t forget a compact, portable chair for added comfort unless you’re really into the outdoors you decide to sit on the cushionable grass (lol).

5. Water Sports Adventure

a. Swimwear: For activities like paddleboarding or kayaking, choose a swimsuit with good support and coverage. Also, rash guards or swim shirts can provide additional sun protection.

b. Bottoms: Board shorts or quick-dry athletic shorts are practical and comfortable.

c. Footwear: Water shoes or sports sandals with good grip are essential to prevent slips and protect your feet. Or you can also go for rubber shoes. They are comfortable and cute.

d. Accessories: A waterproof dry bag is perfect for keeping your belongings safe. Sunglasses with a strap will ensure they stay secure during your activities. However, please do not forget sunscreen. These combinations make for perfect summer outfits.

Final Thoughts

When planning your summer outdoor activities, comfort and practicality are key. However, choosing the right summer outfits can make a significant difference in your overall experience. Furthermore, it is important to prioritize breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics, and comfort, and invest in good footwear tailored to your specific activity. However, with the right ensemble, you can focus on enjoying your adventure to the fullest, whether you’re hiking up a mountain, lounging on a beach, or exploring a new trail. Enjoy your summer adventures in style and comfort!
